2008 Summer Camp for High School Students

Summer Camp in Computer Science

Computer Science Department will host a Summer Camp for High School students during the summer of 2008.

Most of the activities will be in the setting of a computer laboratory. Problems addressed by Computer Scientists in various application domains such as sciences, engineering, medicine, and business, as well as theoretical and technological aspects of the computing discipline, will be introduced to the students. Hands on experience with writing programs to solve these problems will be a major activity during the camp. Speakers from industry and scientific research will present problems from their domains that need solutions from computer scientists.

Students will be taught a simple programming language. They will then be helped in developing simple solutions to some interesting problems. Students will be introduced to many complex problem from science and engineering domains that require computer science solutions. The emphasis will be on designing efficient solutions for this problem. Students will be helped in implementng their solutions in an advanced programming language.

All students will choose a project and work and complete it during the camp. Computers, software, and extensive help will be provided to students for completing their projects.
