Awards

To promote research excellence and inspire graduate students, the ECE Department has established the following two awards:

  1. CS Best M.S. Thesis Award
  2. CS Best Ph.D. Dissertation Award


In addition, up to three runners-up in each category (M.S. Thesis or Ph.D. Dissertation), depending upon the recommendation of the award committee, will receive a "Certificate of Merit." These awards will be presented annually at the ECE Annual Honors and Awards Banquet. The eligibility requirements and the procedures for each award are as follows.

  1. In order to be eligible for the award, the student must have completed all requirements for the M.S. or Ph.D. degree, and passed the M.S. Thesis/Ph.D. Dissertation oral defense examination during the calendar year ending April 30th prior to the banquet.
  2. A committee appointed by the Graduate Program Director will review all nominations and select one student in each category for each award. Up to three runners-up in each category, as recommended by the committee, will receive the "Certificate of Merit."


The supporting material to be submitted will include

  1. A nomination letter with evidence of the quality of the M.S. thesis or Ph.D. dissertation,
  2. At least two letters of recommendation, list of refereed publications related to the thesis or dissertation for which the nomination has been made, and
  3. A curriculum vitae of the student.


The final awards will be made on the basis of overall quality and the specific contribution of the thesis or dissertation.
