Awards
To promote research excellence and inspire graduate students, the ECE Department has established the following two awards:
- CS Best M.S. Thesis Award
- CS Best Ph.D. Dissertation Award

In addition, up to three runners-up in each category (M.S. Thesis or
Ph.D. Dissertation), depending upon the recommendation of the award
committee, will receive a "Certificate of Merit." These awards will be
presented annually at the ECE Annual Honors and Awards Banquet. The
eligibility requirements and the procedures for each award are as
follows.
- In order to be eligible for the award, the student must have
completed all requirements for the M.S. or Ph.D. degree, and passed the
M.S. Thesis/Ph.D. Dissertation oral defense examination during the
calendar year ending April 30th prior to the banquet.
- A committee appointed by the Graduate Program Director will
review all nominations and select one student in each category for each
award. Up to three runners-up in each category, as recommended by the
committee, will receive the "Certificate of Merit."

The supporting material to be submitted will include
- A nomination letter with evidence of the quality of the M.S. thesis or Ph.D. dissertation,
- At least two letters of recommendation, list of refereed
publications related to the thesis or dissertation for which the
nomination has been made, and
- A curriculum vitae of the student.

The final awards will be made on the basis of overall quality and the specific contribution of the thesis or dissertation.
