CS Curriculum Information

These links take you to the College of Engineering's Curriculum Information pages for students scheduled to graduate in the following years:

During the senior year CS majors typically take Senior Design Project for 3 quarters, take Theory of Automata and Formal Languages in the Fall, take most or all of their required CS Electives, and complete all their other requirements (such as BoK or Science Electives).

Also view the College of Engineerings main General Education/Body of Knowledge requirements for all Engineering majors. They are built upon and extend the University's BoK requirements (except for the Natural Science and Mathematics areas of the University requirements, which are covered by major requirements). Note that, because of our society's expectations for computer scientists, BoK requirements for Computer Science majors are somewhat heavier than for other majors in the College of Engineering.

The schedules above also show several "general electives." These are courses taken at the University of Cincinnati, beyond courses to satisfy other requirements for the Computer Science major, to get to the required 201 credit hours. (Duplicate courses, defined to be two courses with the same number and title, even if in different departments, do not count.) Up to 4 credit hours may be any other courses taken at the University of Cincinnati. The remaining courses may be any courses that (i) are taken from Colleges on the Clifton campus that are numbered 200 or higher, or (ii) count toward BoK requirements, other than natural science or mathematics, or (iii) are required for the student's minor in the Colleges of Engineering, Arts and Sciences, DAAP, Business Administration, Education, Social Work, or CCM, or (iv) are approved by the College at the time the student transfers into the CS major.

Special Studies: A special studies course, ECES 505, is available your senior year. You may take no more than one 505 course per quarter. This course is designed to give exceptional students an opportunity to take a course above the 600-level for undergraduate credit. Prior approval by the course instructor and a petition from the College Office are required to take a graduate course as a senior, whether for graduate credit or as an ECECS 505 course. Once you obtain approval for registration, you have the option of registering for the exact course number, instead of ECES 505, so that the title of the course will appear on your transcript. Credit will not be given toward both graduate and undergraduate degrees for the same course. There are two separate petitions for graduate course registration. To take a graduate level course and have it count toward your undergraduate degree, use the form entitled, "USE OF GRADUATE CREDIT IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE". To take a graduate level course and have it count toward a graduate degree program, use the form entitled, "GRADUATE CREDIT REGISTRATION FOR A SENIOR".
