Science Electives
Students in the class of 2011 and later are required to take one of the following sequences:
1. Biology 101, 102
2. Chemistry 101, 102
These courses are normally taken in the Freshman year, but this is not required. However, it may be difficult for students to schedule these sequences on years when they are in co-op.
Students in the class of 2010 and earlier are required to take one of the following sequences:
1. Biology 101, 102 plus labs 111, 112
2. Chemistry 101, 102, 103
3. Chemistry 101, 102 plus labs 111, 112
4. Geology 101, 102 plus labs 111, 112
5. Physics 351, 352 (Caution: may require extra mathematics prerequisites)
6. Sociology 321, 322 (Research methods in Sociology) plus 3 or more credit hours from (1)-(5) above. Warning: before taking Sociology 321,322 students should take Mathematics 361, 362 (required for CS major) plus Sociology 141, 142 (count for BoK credit).
7. Anthropology (Linguistics) 231, 232 plus 3 or more credit hours from (1)-(5) above. (Warning: Anthropology (Linguistics 230) is prerequisite for 231; it counts as a BoK elective.
These courses are normally taken in the Senior year, but this is not required. However, it may be difficult for students to schedule these sequences on years when they are in co-op.
Note: Science Elective options (6) and (7) include social science courses, which may count for CS science elective credit or BoK credit, but not both. In order to avoid any confusion, when students choosing options (6) or (7) apply for graduation, they should include notes stating that they are using these courses to count as science elective sequences.
