LIMOC: Enhancing Network Lifetime with Mobile Clusterhead Formation

This paper involves the proposal of a scheme for enhancement of network LIfetime using MObile Clusterheads (LIMOC) in an heterogeneous environment. The static sensor nodes which are mainly used for data sensing have lower energy than the highly energy-rich nodes called ClusterHeads (CHs) which are mobile and can transmit data directly to the base station (BS). LIMOC involves combining the idea of clustering and mobile BS to first form clusters of static sensor nodes. After the cluster formation step is over, only the CHs start moving, keeping the other members of the cluster static. Therefore, the one hop neighbors of each CH which are responsible for sending data directly to the CH keep changing accordingly. Thus, the energy of each cluster is dissipated among nodes evenly in turn therefore avoiding a fixed set of sensors to continuously transmit data to the CHs and thus running out of energy eventually.
